Former President Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty after entering a Washington courtroom to answer charges that he used “illegal tactics” to break the results of the 2020 presidential election.
The indictment accuses Trump of conspiring to defraud the United States; conspiracy to obstruct government prosecutions; barrier prevention; conspiracy against the right to vote, and vote counting.
Trump appeared before Chief Justice Moxila A. Upadhyay in E. Barrett Prettyman Court. The trial began at 4:15 p.m. ET and took less than 30 minutes.The next court date is August 28th.
Trump also faces charges in a separate lawsuit filed by special counsel Jack Smith, who accused him of misusing state secrets after leaving the White House.
