Rays restrict Wander Franco as MLB probes social media post.
It has been decided by both the Tampa Bay Rays and Wander Franco that he will be placed on the Restricted List and will take time away from the club for the length of the road trip that the team is currently on.
Sunday was the day when the posts in question were discovered on social media, and the Rays issued a statement on the matter following their game versus the Cleveland Guardians.
“During today’s game, we were made aware of the social media posts that are circulating regarding Wander Franco,” the Rays wrote in their statement. “During today’s game.” We are keeping in close contact with Major League Baseball as it conducts its investigation since we do take the problem seriously.
The Rays did not provide any further information regarding the social media posts. Kevin Cash, the manager of the Rays, declined to comment further following his team’s loss to the Guardians by the score of 9-2 on Sunday. All he would say was that he was “aware” of the posts. On Sunday, the Rays did not have the 22-year-old Franco in their lineup.
